Last year I wrote about 2020 being like a visit to the theme park, we had a wild ride but now it’s time to get back to work. The overall Qi of 2021 is quite multi-layered with a favourable focus on the truth, sustainability and equity. There are some negative aspects that can be mitigated by being aware of the bigger, global picture and speaking out against injustice.
Yin Metal is precious jewellery, liking glamour and being seen in places with important people. The Chinese character for Yin Metal can also be interpreted as the word for – restoration, gentle, diplomatic, cynical and bitter. This means that Yin Metal can be inward looking, intelligence with wisdom, but is susceptible to flattery and bribery. This Heavenly Stem is good at examining details, but tends to forget the big picture which indicates that there will be finger pointing and blame for the problems of 2020 without much attention given to long-term solutions.

Supporting Yin Metal is one of the Four Earths – the Ox. It brings a stabilising influence to the year and isn’t afraid of the hard work needed to build something lasting. As well as the Oxen’s Yin Earth, it has hidden Yin Metal and Yin Water Stems, indicating moist, nutrient rich soil. The image of the year is an Ox cultivating a fertile field with a poorly built plough.
Since the main Stem of the year Yin Metal is mirrored in the Oxen’s hidden Stems, Metal energy will make a huge comeback after being drained by the Rat in 2020. It is called Bi Jian or simply “Friends” and it represents helpful assistants, strength of character, recognising opportunities but needing assistance to grasp them. Yin Water is the main Yin Metal’s “Eating God”, Shi Shen. The Eating God enjoys success, good food, entertainment and making connections. Some of Shi Shen’s nature is in opposition to the Ox though, as it can be lazy with no real means of income but still likes to spend money.
On a macro level there are several warnings coming from this analysis.
Firstly, the Oxen’s Earth has the effect of making Metal shiny. This means that there will be a tendency to be easily distracted and as such, 2021 will be “the year of the spin” in politics.
Secondly, the combination of “Bi Jian” and “Shi Shen” indicates that “lazy friends will take care of each other”. Since Metal represents our financial system, we can surmise that there will be favouritism at high levels.
Lastly, the image of the Ox working a field with faulty equipment indicates that efforts to create change will be hampered.
From an individual perspective, Earth is Resource for Yin Metal; bringing virtue, tolerance, love and ethics. The Na Yin Element for 2021 is “Wall Earth”, a safe place to settle down, providing shelter from the harsh environment. The Lifecycle for 2021 is Yung – very positive however a bit naïve. This energy loves learning new things and education but is a straight-shooter, so be clear in what you want this year.
The imagery of the year can be seen as a sign that more people will be producing their own food, even if they lack the skills. Check youtube small-scale food production channels like “Self Sufficient Me”, “Charles Dowding” and “Richard Perkins”. Despite the macro problems, there is plenty that we, as individuals can achieve by taking responsibility and not tolerating selfish behaviour. This can be a year to push for a future that values compassion over profits.
From a Chinese Medicine perspective, 2021 has very strong Metal Element indicating a solution to the coronavirus (governs the lungs). In the cycle of Elements, Metal – drains Earth, strengthens Water and clashes Wood. Earth represents the stomach, reinforcing the importance of food security. For health, eat as many simple home prepared meals that support the digestive system as possible. Since Water can be over-energised and must pass through the stomach, filtered drinking water will help too. The pandemic in 2020 came from a clash between weakened Metal and strengthened Wood. The reverse is true this year, strong Metal vs weak Wood indicating damage to the liver. While there may not be another global health disaster, make certain to eat and drink as cleanly as possible to avoid any acute problems.
There will be an amazing recovery for the financial system/market in 2021, but the real economy that most of us rely on is Earth, so property, retail and other ‘real’ markets will languish by giving too much back to the financial system. The best use of our energy for the year is to get involved in local community initiatives and support the people around us.

Whilst career and wealth aren’t at their peak for Rats, 2021 could see you relocating home or jobs to further your financial goals. Since it is a year where your previous hard work is accepted and admired, even a small move could mark the beginning of a new life for you.

Ox in 2021
The Ox is an Earth sign has a mirror reflecting back to them in 2021. This can be positive or negative depending on your attitude towards self-analysis, when you arrive into your own sign, it’s a time to look within yourself and make the changes you need. It can also mean shifts in career and living arrangements, usually positive but only when care is taken. The stoic Ox is generally at peace with who they are, and will find that others come to them for advice.
Love and Personal Life
There is an improvement in love, but no fireworks. As an Ox, your best life comes through being truly yourself and making deeper connections. 2020 taught us exactly how important family is, so continue connecting with relatives, especially parents and the older generations. As mentioned before, people will ask you for advice. Help where you can, but remember that you can’t solve everyone’s problems.
Career and Money
All the hard work you did in 2020 should pay off this year, an Ox with experience is highly sought after. Look at improving your overall appearance because if you look good, you feel good and your superiors will notice. It would be excellent if the people coming for your advice were people that can help advance your career.

Tiger in 2021
The Tiger and Ox are neighbours, but don’t really have an affinity. Kind of like neighbours waving politely as they head off to work. Most Tigers can expect the same sort of year – OK but nothing special. The difference is where a Tiger also has the Rabbit and Rat; or the Rabbit and Dragon on their BaZi chart. For these people, 2021 will be an amazing year, incredibly smooth.
Love and Personal Life
Tigers in general will need to put more energy into family relationships, but will feel the urge to get away from it all. The strongest Qi for Tigers this year is justice and karma balance. This is a good year for doing good deeds.
Career and Money
The Tigers path to an improved career is through their self-confidence and networking ability. If you are in a good position, then investment in real markets like property and mining will pay off over the longer term, but Tigers should only make financial commitments if they are sure they can afford it.

Rabbit in 2021
The Rabbit may find that they need to rely on others in 2021 to get by as the Rabbit’s Wood is only partially compatible with the Ox. Staying friends with a Pig or two will help reduce the Metal vs Wood energy of the year. While you won’t have to be as mindful of your words like last year, you still need to think before you communicate.
Love and Personal Life
Rabbits that choose their words carefully will find that 2021 is a year where you can talk almost anyone into anything (with patience). Those that come across too strongly may find themselves back-tracking, finesse is the key to getting what you want. Children are very well aspected this year, spend time with your kids for a long-lasting positive result. Your health is really improving – stick to eating well, meditating is especially good for reducing stress and staying positive.

Rabbits may struggle with their finances this year, or find they need help to get by. It is not a year for risk-taking, but for protecting wealth. There may still find blocks in your career but now is the time to educate yourself on investing because your property and wealth stars are on the way up.

Dragon in 2021
The Ox damages the Dragon’s efforts in 2021, hopefully there are Dragons who have established themselves in a stable environment. The best solution is to be well prepared, plan out your activities but be flexible when dealing with others.

Health and career are two competing factors in Dragons daily life this year. The Ox should be a time for Dragon’s to regenerate after the pace of 2020, but most will find that all their hard work is paying off and they can focus solely on career. Love and relationships are ebbing anyway, so many Dragons will choose work. Make certain that staying healthy on all levels is a top priority.
Career and Money
As mentioned above, the Ox brings plenty of work and boosts to career, but Dragons will need to weigh up the costs of working too much. Both are Earth Element, and both have hidden Yin Water, so those Dragons that have Yin Water on their BaZi chart will have an edge over everyone else. To fully succeed stay determined and focused on your goals.

Snake in 2021
The Snake and Ox combine, leading to a very good year with plenty of people wanting to help. Snakes with either a Yang or Yin Water Day Master on their BaZi chart can expect even better results, as making the right connections will propel them to the next level.

In general combinations make life easy. This can work against Snakes if they are complacent or lazy, as health will suffer. Snakes have health energy at the lowest point, but inactivity will only make it worse. Work out an exercise plan and stick to it in 2021. Romance stars are getting stronger, and staying fit will make you more attractive.
Career and Money
The Snake-Ox combination gets more interesting when we look at the hidden Stems. Yin Water (Ox) combines with Yang Earth (Snake) to form Fire, and Yin Metal (Ox) combines with Yang Fire (Snake) to form Water. Fire has power over the Yin Metal Stem of the year, and Water is supported by it. This shows that Snakes can manage money easily in 2021, and there will be big benefits with even a small amount of effort and focus.

Horse in 2021
Life is settling down for the Horse after 2020, but the Ox puts stumbling blocks in the Horse’s way. These aren’t big problems, but small everyday frustrations. The good news is that the Ox rewards ethical and honest Horses.

Work on your relationship with your children this year, no matter the obstacles. When this aspect of life returns to normal, you will be glad you put in the effort. Career luck is improving for Horses but like 2020, the focus is on stability and routine. Continue to put in the hours and your finances will keep improving. More importantly, your work will be recognised and any injustice you’ve suffered in the workplace will be rectified.

Sheep / Goat in 2021
The Sheep and Ox are both Earth, but are in direct opposition to each other. When two Earth Branches clash there tends to be a lot of drama, but when it settles down things become better. This can be trying, but Earth clashes can create long term good luck.

Sheep in a relationship will need to put effort into their spouse’s happiness this year. Those that have a second Sheep, or an Ox, Snake, Rooster or Rat in their BaZi Spouse Palace will be strongly affected. Single Sheep are better off that way unless they have a Yang Wood, Earth or Metal Day Master on their BaZi chart and even then, it is unlikely to last the distance. It is best to focus on self-development.

ince there is potential for good financial luck following any clashes, Sheep will need to think on their feet in 2021. You may be required to act against your ethics at times to get what you want, be careful to weigh every action in these situations as they may come to haunt you in later years. Many Sheep will be drawn towards speculation and investing rather than working in a career.

Monkey in 2021
The Monkey has no direct interaction with 2021, it is still a mix of Metal and Water Elements, which matches the flow of the Yin Metal Ox. Monkeys will find that they attract more mentors into their lives, and their best luck arrives when they accept advice from people more knowledgeable than themselves.

Monkeys need to keep their minds off their love life, in fact many will have itchy feet in 2021 and feel the need to escape the humdrum of daily life. If your constitution is strong enough, it should be a good year to leave the rat race and explore the world. Monkeys are another sign that need to put energy into their relationships with their children in 2021.
Career and Money
Money should continue to improve as it did in 2020 and any inequitable conditions that the Monkey has experienced over the last few years will balance out in their favour. If the love of travel can be combined with work, then you will truly be in heaven.

Rooster in 2021
2021 is a great year for Roosters. Not only does the Ox combine, but their hidden Stem is Yin Metal, fully supported by the entire annual Pillar. A Rooster with a Yin Metal Day Master on their BaZi chart will be luckiest of all.

The majority of relationships will be happy and joyful this year. People will find your company attractive and children will bring delight. Your health has been improving rapidly but if you’re not careful, there could be a relapse. Work on keeping those good habits.
Career and Money
Roosters will continue their lucky financial run and like last year the property star is growing stronger. Tangible investments like real estate, precious metals, commodities or collectibles are the best for your energy. Roosters will need to avoid legal problems this year, with a higher likelihood of losing, even if you are in the right.
You’re a Rooster if you were born in 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993 or 2005.
Dog in 2021
Even though both are Earth, the Dog and Ox aren’t particularly good friends, in fact the two together are termed a penalty. While good luck can come for the Sheep through clashing with the Ox, Dogs will generally feel that 2021 is drab and uninteresting. This particular penalty is called ‘upperhand bullying’ and Dogs will regularly find themselves in situations where others put them down.

2021 brings hard work for the Dog, and they and may find their health gradually declines as a result. It is a year for all Dogs to focus on their own wellbeing instead of everyone else. Do the things that make you happy, avoid negative people and take time to relax.

Career is actually well-aspected this year, but to make any gains Dogs will need to work hard, especially if they are employed. The sign of the Dog is the “Koon Tai” lifecycle for Yin Metal, very determined to succeed, but the best wealth luck will come from asset protection and saving. Pigs are generally the romantic type, and those feelings are getting stronger in 2021. Keep putting effort into health and appearance to catch the perfect partner, and also to improve career prospects. Pigs can make a difference to their children’s lives by giving them the time and energy they need to grow.

Most Pigs were able to stay steady financially in 2020, some doing very well. This year however, is about working hard which despite outward appearances, the Pig is not afraid of. This industriousness combined with a good investment and retirement plan will be of long-lasting benefit.
